NLS has been asked to publicize the following
vacancy at the Division of Library Development and Services,
Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in
Baltimore, Maryland.

JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION TITLE:   Staff Specialist III,
Library Services

POSITION NUMBER:069805

SALARY:  State Salary Grade 18
Annual Salary Range:
$38,613 - $58,085

LOCATION: 415 Park Avenue,
Baltimore, Maryland

NATURE OF WORK:
This is a professional position located in the Library for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) responsible for
administering and providing library services and a comprehensive information
resource network for individuals with disabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides library reference, referral, and readers' advisory
services for library patrons; uses online systems to retrieve
information. Supervises patron application process,
including patron follow-up and tracking of patron-related
activities.  Edits and coordinates quarterly newsletter
activities.  Coordinates and plans LBPH participation in
conferences, book fairs, and programs.  Provides tours,
presentations, training, and promotion of library services
to users, staff, and other organizations.  Participates in
local, state, and national organizations serving the
information needs of the individuals eligible for LBPH
services.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
A master's degree in library information science or library
media from a college or university accredited by the American
Library Association.

Experience:
Three years of professional library experience is required;
supervisory experience serving individuals with disabilities
and /or managing library projects is preferred.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of online systems and databases; knowledge of
maintaining a library collection in various formats; ability to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with diverse
clientele and staff; ability to work as a team member and to
exercise good judgement and tact; ability to communicate
effectively.
