PCC SACO Workshops at ALA Midwinter 2000 Conference

        The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) will present two
workshops Friday, January 14, 2000, in support of SACO, the Subject
Authority Cooperative Program of the PCC.  For the first time in the
recent schedule of SACO workshops, the morning session will focus on
LC Classification proposals.

        The workshops are open at no charge on a
first-come-first-served basis to all catalogers interested in
proposing new class numbers and changes to Library of Congress
Classification schedules (LCC) and new headings and changes to LCSH.
Training materials will be provided free of charge at the workshop.
PCC programs will comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

        At the end of these workshops, participants will be better
able to prepare proposals for LCC and proposals for events and
buildings, structures, etc. in LCSH.

Basic SACO Classification Workshop A, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM

Workshop A: Proposing New Class Numbers and Changes to  LCC

        The instructor will cover the basic principles and procedures
in proposing new class numbers and changes to class numbers in the
Library of Congress Classification system through review of relevant
instruction sheets in the Subject Cataloging Manual: Classification
and appropriate examples.

Specialized SACO Workshop B, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM

Workshop B:  Proposing Subject Headings for Events and Buildings,
Structures, etc.

        The instructor will cover the principles and procedures for
proposing subject headings for events and buildings, structures, etc.,
through review of relevant instruction sheets in the Subject
Cataloging Manual: Subject Headings and appropriate examples.  The
basic SACO class, which was offered 1995-1999, or prior SACO
experience are recommended prerequisites.

1999 as described below:
